Udo Jin-e
A survivor of the Battle of Toba–Fushimi who forces Kenshin to confront his past.
Udō Jin-e is a character from the 2012 live-action film *Rurouni Kenshin*, based on the manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki. In the film, he is a survivor of the Battle of Toba–Fushimi who now works for the ruthless businessman Takeda Kanryū. He is the man who picks up the sword abandoned by the Hitokiri Battōsai on the battlefield. Jin-e is a skilled swordsman who kills under the style of the Kamiya dojo, smearing its name, and he is the one who kidnaps Kaoru to provoke Kenshin into a final battle.

Udō Jin-e is one of Kanryū's men and a survivor of the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, where he claimed the sword of the Hitokiri Battōsai after it was abandoned. A decade later, he serves Kanryū by hunting down Takani Megumi, a woman who escaped from forced opium production. Jin-e slaughters everyone in a police station while pursuing her. He also kills under the name of the Battōsai, using the Kamiya style of swordsmanship to frame the dojo. When he encounters Kaoru, he injures her easily, but Kenshin appears and saves her. Jin-e immediately recognizes Kenshin's hidden identity as the true Battōsai. Later, he goes on a killing spree, leaving many corpses for the police to find. To provoke Kenshin, Jin-e kidnaps Kaoru and uses a special technique that paralyzes her lungs, which can only be stopped by killing him. After an intense battle, Kenshin critically injures Jin-e by shattering his elbow with his scabbard. Before Kenshin can land the killing blow, Kaoru overcomes the paralysis and stops him. Jin-e then commits suicide, telling Kenshin that he who lives by the sword must die by the sword, counter to Kenshin's vow never to kill again.

Udō Jin-e first appears as a shadowy figure in the service of Takeda Kanryū, a wealthy but cruel businessman. After Megumi escapes from Kanryū's opium operation, Jin-e hunts her down, killing everyone in the police station where she sought refuge. He later crosses paths with Kaoru, who is trying to clear her dojo's name. Jin-e, using the Kamiya style, easily injures her. Kenshin appears and saves her, and Jin-e immediately recognizes Kenshin as the true Battōsai. After a series of events, Jin-e kidnaps Kaoru and uses a technique that paralyzes her lungs, forcing Kenshin to fight him. The battle is intense, with Kenshin ultimately shattering Jin-e's elbow with his scabbard. As Kenshin prepares to deliver the killing blow, Kaoru overcomes the paralysis and stops him. Jin-e then takes his own life, delivering a final warning about the fate of those who live by the sword.
